Kill Unwanted Trees and Prevent Undesirable Cut Trees with Tordon Herbicide

Control unwanted brush, trees, and weeds in troublesome areas like beneath electrical powerlines, along railroad beds, and roadsides with Tordon herbicide. By controlling vegetation in these specific areas, you can ensure the safety of others while protecting native plants and wildlife.

Kill Vegetation in as Little as Two Weeks with Tordon RTU

If you're a forester or vegetation manager looking for a reliable, effective product to control unwanted weeds, leafy spurge, and overgrown woody plants, meet your perfect match. Tordon RTU herbicide makes light work of in-season and off-season brush control.

Tordon's Active Ingredient
Tordon RTU herbicide is a ready-to-use product with active picloram: a 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid and triisopropanolamine salt.

Picloram works like a growth regulator found only in plants, entering treated vegetation through the leaves and stems.

The active ingredient uses the plant's own transportation system to move into the root systems and leaves to induce rapid growth, which disrupts food production in result and causes the plant to die from lack of nutrients.

Kinds of Vegetation Managed with Tordon Herbicide
Managing vegetation is crucial in rights-of-way applications where overgrown brushes or trees can create serious hazards.

Tordon weed killer is the perfect option to effectively kill cut stumps, unwanted trees, and overgrown vegetation. It also prevents undesirable sprouting of cut trees in forests and other non-crop areas, including but not limited to fence rows, roadsides, and commercial forestry.

Vegetation Control on Roadsides
These areas require vegetation control for safety purposes. Overgrown brushes and trees may often block traffic signs or roadside markers, conceal guardrails, or overtake road shoulders— all scenarios in which a driver and passenger are significantly at risk of harm or injury.

Vegetation Control Underneath Power Lines
In contrasting settings, overgrown vegetation could potentially cause electrical power outages, especially when grown underneath powerlines or beneath transmission towers. Maintenance becomes difficult and dangerous when there is too much vegetation and quickly can become a fire hazard.

Vegetation Control in Commercial Forestry
Tordon herbicide is the perfect brush killer for foresters needing to control vegetation to maximize their timber harvest. By controlling brush from overgrowing, they can also decrease the potential of a forest fire outbreak.

Controlling Invasive Plant Species with Tordon RTU
Invasive plants are, unfortunately, no strangers to the affected areas mentioned above. They invade vegetation and threaten to dominate an entire area with a single plant type— choking out native grasses, flowers, and other plant species along with the wildlife that inhabits them.

By choosing Tordon herbicide as your selective herbicide, you can control invasive plant species, thus promoting native plants and attracting an extensive range of wildlife that comes along with them.

Why Herbicide Gets the Job Done Over Cutting
Cutting, trimming, or mowing overgrown brush and trees may sound like the easy alternative for ensuring safety, but it only puts a band-aid over the problem. Solely cutting vegetation is not enough to adequately protect the priorly-discussed areas above. Tordon tree killer and stub killer eliminates not only the unwanted plants but also reduces labor-intensive work and the risk of causing soil compaction and erosion from heavy machinery.

Although convenient and seemingly harmless, mowing could actually worsen your vegetation problem because of the subsequent resprouting it creates. Moving parts and fast, sharp blades also put livestock, wildlife, and laborers at risk. Using Tordon RTU as your preferred weed killer is a safe, practical choice for all involved.

How to Apply Tordon Weed Killer
The application of Tordon herbicide is slightly different from one treatment to the next. Please avoid the following treated areas until the vegetation dries.

  • Tree Injection Treatment: Use 1 milliliter of undiluted Tordon RTU solution through the bark completely around the tree trunk at intervals of 2 to 3 inches between edges of the injector wounds. Make injections near ground level when using the tree injector or 2 to 4 feet above the ground using a Hypohatchet Injector or similar device. Treatments can be made in any season. Maples should not be treated during the spring sap flow. With some difficult to control species such as dogwood, hickory, sugar maple, bigleaf maple, tanoak, and some firs, application to a continuous cut rather than to spaced cuts may be more uniformly effective.
  • Frill or Girdle Treatment: Make a single hack girdle or "frill" of overlapping ax cuts through the bark completely around the tree as close to the ground as feasible. Spray or paint the injured surface with undiluted Tordon RTU, using enough volume to wet treated areas.
  • Stump Treatment: Spray or paint the cut surfaces of freshly cut stumps and stubs with undiluted Tordon RTU. The cambium area next to the bark is the most vital area to wet.

Please see the product label for complete application instructions.
