Pylex Herbicide is Specially Formulated for Post-Emergent Applications to Treat Selective Grass and Broadleaf Weeds

Are you looking to control grass and broadleaf weeds in cool-season turfgrass? Pylex herbicide is the answer. Pylex works in post-emergent applications as the standard for control of goosegrass and bermudagrass, among other susceptible weeds.

Improve Weed Control Over Cool-Season Turf with Highly Effective BASF Pylex Herbicide

Pylex weed killer is the newest innovation from BASF, providing excellent control of a variety of tough weeds in cool-season turfgrass and select warm-season turfgrass. It is a selective, post-emergent herbicide that delivers some of the best control over crabgrass, bermudagrass, goosegrass, and other unwanted weeds.

Pylex's Active Ingredient & Mode of Action
The active ingredient in Pylex is Topramezone in a 29.7% suspension concentrate formulation. This weed killer has very low use rates, from 0.5 to 1.5 oz per acre to address most weed situations, and up to 2 oz per acre on Kentucky bluegrass only. You have a maximum seasonal use rate of 4 oz per acre per year!

The Topramezone featured in Pylex is absorbed through the plant's foliage, stems, and roots and is then translocated to the growing points of susceptible weeds. Pylex takes control over weeds by inhibiting carotenoid biosynthesis, which turns weeds white soon after application because of chlorophyll loss and growth stops. These affected weeds then become necrotic, and thus, are controlled.

You may use Pylex at the time of seeding; however, applications cannot be made 1-28 days after seeding.

You will see excellent control over the following weeds:

  • Chickweed
  • Clover
  • Crabgrass
  • Dandelion
  • Ground Ivy
  • Thistle
  • See Label for complete list

You will also see suppression of dallisgrass and gain good control of Bermudagrass with multiple Pylex applications at the end of the growing season.

For best application results, weeds should be actively growing and not under stress from lack of water, excessive water, low fertility, mowing shock, excessively hot or cold temperatures, or injury from other herbicide applications.

Therefore, do not mow two days or two days after applying Pylex herbicide— this way, you get maximum weed control and minimal turfgrass injury.

Post-Emergent Control with Pylex
Pylex herbicide label works in post-emergent applications. It's helpful to distinguish between the two main types of weed control since they differ slightly in terms of their purpose.

  • Pre-Emergent Herbicides- Pre-emergent weed control allows you to prevent weeds from sprouting and popping up from underneath the ground. Pre-emergent herbicides will kill weeds before the seed sprouts as temperatures begin to warm, usually in early spring.
  • Post-Emergent Herbicides- Post-emergent herbicides kill weeds that have already sprouted.  Because Pylex herbicide acts as post-emergent weed control, it will ensure that pesky plants will not spread and invade the rest of your grass. It's best to use a post-emergent anytime between the spring and fall months.

Based on the herbicide's mode of action and excellent post-emergent control, contractors, landscapers, and sports field superintendents alike will enjoy the highly effective weed control they'll receive with every application.

Label Precautions
Take a look below to discover some Pylex herbicide label precautions to be aware of.

-Do not apply Pylex to greens or collars

-Maintain at least a 5 ft. buffer between treated areas and bentgrass greens.

-To reduce the herbicide from moving into more sensitive species, such as bentgrass, avoid foot and vehicle traffic until sprays have dried.
-Do not apply Pylex to Bentgrass or Bermudagrass at full rates, except for control or suppression.

Pylex Seasonal Uses
There are three common ways Pylex is used depending on the time of year and the weeds you are trying to control.
