Many of them either offer pressure compensation features or work with pressure compensation components to help optimize water flow in your pipe systems.
But first, a quick look at the advantages of polyethylene irrigation pipe that’s flexible, compared with PVC or other rigid pipe material:
Why flexible poly pipe for irrigation?
Any irrigation system, from a small landscape job to a large golf course irrigation system, is only as effective and reliable as the piping it uses to transport water. In the past, most commercial irrigation systems have used piping made of rigid PVC plastic, galvanized steel, or aluminum.
However, many modern irrigation and drip irrigation systems now rely on flexible, high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or medium-density polyethylene (MDPE) piping — also called poly irrigation piping. They’re also using low-density polyethylene (LDPE) tubing – often for micro drip irrigation applications.
Often colored blue or black, this remarkable new plastic pipe offers unique properties that make it an ideal choice for carrying water through irrigation systems:
- Reduced leakage, because it doesn’t need separate connectors, which can allow a lot of water to escape the system over time.
- Superior flexibility, with the ability to bend at extreme angles without breaking and go around immovable obstacles without relying on leak-prone connectors.
- Longer life, as HDPE flexible piping is less vulnerable to cracking from stress over time. Unlike PVC and other rigid irrigation piping, flexible poly piping can expand and contract in response to rapid water flow and pressure changes, helping to control damage over time. For the same reason, it’s also less susceptible to splitting from frost heave.
- Environmentally friendly. HDPE poly pipe is made from recyclable material, and even after years of use, can be melted down and used to make more. It also doesn’t release toxic vapors or other compounds at high temperatures, unlike some other types of plastic.
We only carry the most reliable MDPE and HDPE poly supply line pipe from Centennial Plastics and Cresline Plastic Pipe Co. We also offer Rain Bird’s low-density poly micro tubing for drip irrigation systems —especially ideal for use with its on-line drip emitters and micro-sprayers.
Here’s a roundup of what we carry from each brand:
Centennial Plastics
Centennial Plastics is known for its high-quality polyethylene pipe you can easily install and simply forget.
There’s no mistaking Centennial’s ProTurf Green® poly pipe, with its exclusive solid “turf-green” exterior (the interior is black). Made with top quality, virgin-medium or high-density polyethylene, ProTurf Green® offers superior strength, chemical resistance, flexibility and durability. It’s also very easy to handle, resulting in a neat and clean installation. And once installed, Centennial Plastics backs ProTurf Green® with a Buyer’s Lifetime Warranty.
Other benefits:
- Consistently sized to assure properly fitted installations without fear of future leaks.
- Interior is gun barrel-smooth, minimizing minimal friction loss and optimizing water flow rates.
- Subjected to rigorous freeze/thaw tests that simulate 50 years of harsh weather extremes. (Tests show ProTurf Green® will expand 14 percent and return to its original size (water expands 6 percent). This expansion compensates for the pressure that would otherwise be on fittings and heads.)
- For potable water and irrigation applications.
- Manufactured to accommodate insert fittings.
Our ProTurf Green® poly pipe choices for systems of irrigation include:
Centennial - HD-80 1" X 300' ProTurf Green Poly Pipe
Centennial - 1" X 300' ProTurf Green HDPE Poly Pipe - 100 PSI
Centennial - HD-80 1-1/4" X 300' ProTurf Green Poly Pipe
Centennial - HD-100 1-1/4" X 300' ProTurf Green Poly Pipe
We also carry Centennial’s HD-100 1" X 300'' ProTurf Blue Poly Pipe. And if you’re looking for Centennial’s CenFlo black poly pipe or CenFlex Non-NSF pipe, we offer a wide variety of lengths, diameters and pressure ratings.
All CenFlo HDPE 3608 supply line pipe is manufactured from virgin high-density polyethylene resin with the cell classification of 345464C per ASTM D2239 or ASTM D2737. Manufactured to accommodate insert or CTS compression fittings, it contains a minimum of 2 percent carbon black as a UV inhibitor to accommodate outside storage.
Rain Bird
To optimize the flow of water and ensure worry-free performance, Rain Bird’s poly micro drip irrigation tubing has been engineered to stand up to harsh chemicals, UV radiation and damage that can be caused by heavy equipment. Black in color, this low-density, polyethylene flexible pipe is ideal for use with Rain Bird’s pressure-compensating on-line emitters, Micro-Quick™ sprays and Micro-Bird® Spinners.
- Resistant to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, cracking, and splitting for reliable operation.
- Available in standard coil lengths or large diameter reels.
- Backed by Rain Bird’s Customer Satisfaction Policy, which provides protection up to seven years on product workmanship and environmental stress cracking.
