A check valve is a pipe fitting that only allows the flow of fluids in one direction. It has two ports, one as an inlet and one as an outlet. Since it only allows media flow in one direction, it’s used to prevent backflow in landscape drainage and irrigation applications.

Swing check valves are mounted with a disc that swings on a hinge or shaft. The disc swings off the seat to allow forward flow and when the flow is stopped, the disc swings back onto the seat to block reverse flow. The weight of the disc and the return flow has an impact on the shut-off characteristics of the valve.

Rain Bird - Soak Well

A soakwell is an underground structure that allows rainwater to drain away. Soakwells usually consist of concrete, polypropylene or masonry bricks. Typically, rain water from a dwelling roof or impermeable ground area travels via stormwater piping to a soakwell or undergorund tank, gently seeping into the surrounding soil. Soakwells are mostly connected to downpipes leading from gutters on practically most outdoor habitations, unless a common drainage system is available.
