Brass has become one of the most popular irrigation pipe fitting materials because it holds up so well against corrosion, high temperatures, gases, chemicals, acids, minerals and peaty soils. Brass is also highly malleable, meaning it won’t crack or burst from a super strong force or disintegrate over time. That makes it extra durable, resilient and versatile – giving it an edge over other metals and materials used for irrigation fittings.

Brass threaded fittings work with brass, copper and iron irrigation pipes in low- and medium-pressure plumbing applications, making them versatile pieces of hardware.

A copper irrigation pipe fitting, meanwhile, is lighter and even more corrosion resistant than brass, because brass is an alloy made up of multiple materials (mainly copper and zinc). Copper is also lighter in weight.

Brass is more malleable than copper, however, so if a plumbing project contains a lot of bends and joints, brass may be better, since it doesn’t require special tools to bend, shape and mold.
