Family-owned and American-proud, Flint & Walling has long been trusted by top irrigation industry professionals for having the most dependable water supply and irrigation system products.

A newer but most valuable player in the global water pump distribution space, PD Water Systems has quickly built a reputation for high-quality pumps at affordable prices.

Here’s just a sampling of their proven products that keep water pumping when and where you need it.

Self-priming centrifugal pumps

Self-priming water pumps are ideal for frequent and intermittent pumping operations, because you don’t need to keep filling the suction pipe with water on startup. They’ll keep pumping even after the pump is no longer submerged in a liquid tank or vessel.

Self-priming pumps are indispensable when it comes to watering areas far from the supply source, or whenever it’s necessary to transport water to the site in a tank and then distribute it precisely using the pump.

Many irrigation professionals we talk to recommend the Pentair – 3 HP, 230V, 1 Phase Self-Priming Centrifugal Pump. Single-phase pumps like this are useful because they don’t require a high starting torque and can connect directly to the supply line for running. They also don’t require as much maintenance or repair as multi-stage pumps, and when they do, fixing them is easier.

Other notable features of this model include:

  • A drain port for easier winterizing.
  • Wear parts that are easy to get to for repairs and replacements - no need to work around pipes or mounts.
  • Heavy-duty motor designed to operate continuously and reliably.

Three-phrase pumps

Looking for a three-phase centrifugal irrigation pump? Check out the Flint & Walling 3 HP 3-Phase Centrifugal Package with Artesian Drive®.

Artesian Drive® is a factory-programmed variable frequency drive (VFD) offering superior performance over a standard centrifugal pump. This three-phase energy system delivers a constant power supply, preventing the pressure cycling associated with conventional pressure-switch-controlled irrigation pumps. With its fully adjustable pressure sensor, it also delivers constant, consistent output pressure from 30 to 85 PSI by changing motor speed on demand.

Factory tested and pre-set to exact engineering specifications, this model provides consistent spray for multiple sprinkler zone applications. It’s also in it for the long haul, with its NEMA 4 enclosure and soft start/stop technology that cuts down on water hammer.

Sta-Rite centrifugal irrigation pumps

Sta-Rite, now owned by Pentair, has been an innovative global leader in water pumps for irrigation since the 1960s, when it pioneered the use of better-performing pool pumps made of thermoplastics.

One of the many reasons we love the Sta-Rite brand is its automatic pressure regulators. They’re quicker, quieter and designed so you can easily find the correct drive pressure. And their improved stem and guide offer more efficient, hassle-free performance on all deep wells.

Any centrifugal pump made by Sta-Rite also features quality construction and long life when it comes to irrigation applications. The Pentair – 1 HP Sta-Rite Pump, for instance, is a one-piece pump body made of tough, close-grain cast iron offering superior corrosion resistance. Insulated motor windings ward off moisture and contaminants. The carbon-ceramic, stainless steel internal design guarantees continuous water lubrication for ultimate protection. And the included cover keeps dust from getting in the motor.

Other great features on this irrigation systems pump include:

  • A drain port for easy winterizing
  • Precision-machined diffusers for faster priming
  • Pump and motor shaft of 416 stainless steel
  • Pressure switch preset rated at 30-50 PSI
  • Drive-over suction ports

We also offer this Sta-Rite centrifugal water pump in 1 1/2 HP.

Centrifugal booster pumps for irrigation

Flint & Walling – 1/2 HP VP05 All-In-One City Pressure Booster

Not enough water pressure from the city? This all-in-one unit provides superior performance when it comes to increasing the rate of water flow in many applications. Offering pressures from 26 to 112 PSI, it delivers water flow rates from 3 to 27 GPM.

We like this centrifugal boosting pump’s quiet operation and built-in diagnostics, which protects against dead head, running dry and rapid cycling during irrigation. We also like that it’s an all-in-one model, including the pump, motor, stainless steel pressure tank and electronic controller. And finally, this pump is resistant to corrosion, temperature and pitting with its stainless-steel impeller, bearing, shaft sleeve and 1-inch inlet and outlet flanges.

Looking for more horsepower? We also offer the Flint & Walling - 1HP VP10 All-In-One City Pressure Booster.

If the power is insufficient to install a booster, we recommend the P D Water Systems ½ HP, 20 GPM, 30 PSI, 115V Flux Boosting System. It starts and stops according to your needs and replaces the usual pressure switch and tank irrigation systems, providing many advantages. For one, there’s no need to install pressure tanks. It also offers constant flow and very low friction losses.

When a tap is opened and the water demand exceeds the minimum starting flow, the Flux Boosting System starts the pump and keeps water continuously flowing via a special valve – even when the capacity request is low. This boosting system also stops the pump when the demand dips below 0.5 GPM, which prevents wasting power if there’s a leak. It monitors the rate at which the water’s flowing and automatically resets to protect the pump from running dry.

Other great features and benefits:

  • Easy installation (reduced dimensions and 1” standard connections)
  • Low maintenance (easy-to-replace circuit board)
  • Comes with different pumps to boost water pressure up to 95 PSI (also comes in 230 Volt)
  • Technopolymer body with a built-in check valve
  • Water- and temperature-resistant design for outdoor use (32 to 104 degrees Fahrenheit)

Multi stage irrigation pumps

Multistage centrifugal irrigation pumps have multiple liquid chambers (or stages) that are connected in series. Fluid enters the first chamber at suction line pressure and leaves at some elevated pressure. Upon leaving the first stage, the fluid enters the second stage where the pressure is increased further. The more stages, the higher the discharge pressure, although the rate at which the water flows always remains the same.

The use of a multi stage water pump has become increasingly popular for irrigation, since they provide a flexible range of flow and head, along with superior energy efficiency.

Our choice? The Flint & Walling - 1.5HP CJ101 Multi-Stage Centrifugal Pump with Brass Impeller.

This two-stage pump with low-lead brass impellers keeps water pumping flowing at a high rate and boosts water pressure up to 62 PSI when you need it. Although it’s not self-priming, it’ll lift water up to 25 feet with its foot valve and pump suction piping filled with water.

Other specs:

  • Flint & Walling Service Plus Motor (3450 RPM)
  • Mechanical seal with stainless steel, Buna N and carbon-silicon carbide parts
  • NEMA 56J frame with threaded shaft of 416 stainless steel.
  • Cast iron suction body with low-lead brass clearance ring and ¼" vacuum tapping for applications requiring a pressure switch.

Submersible water pumps

A submersible water pumping unit is a fully submerged pump used in irrigation and sprinkler systems, sewer lines and wells. These pumps move large amounts of water from those areas to prevent them from flooding or becoming too full.

Reinders offers the Pentair - HS Series - 1-1/2HP, 230V, 2-Wire Stainless Steel Sub Pump.

We like this pump’s SignaSeal staging system with a floating impeller and harder-than-sand ceramic surface. Together, those work to obliterate sand and small debris in the pump, while a fully enclosed shaft bearing creates a pressure zone keeping sand and water out. Its floating stage design shifts force away from the motor bearing and through the pump housing.

Other great features:

  • Narrow, 3 ¾" diameter suited for 4” well casings
  • Corrosion-resistant, 300-grade stainless steel for durability in aggressive water
  • Large octagon wrench area for easy installation

Turbine pumps

If you’re looking to add a turbine-powered centrifugal pump to your sprinkler systems, check out the B140 Kifco Water-Reel 5.5Hp Booster with Komet Sprinkler for irrigation.

Kifco B-Series Water Reels are a versatile solution for your athletic fields, parks, gardens and more, with their water-powered bellows drive allowing for operation at as low as 45 PSI and 15 GPM with no additional pressure requirements.

Three large flotation tires, meanwhile, make this turbine water pump easy to transport by hand or small garden tractor.
