Sprinkler systems are only as strong as their weakest parts, so it pays to maintain, replace and repair their components. Especially as golf course superintendents, athletic field managers and other decision makers increasingly want to reduce water consumption, as evidenced by the growing popularity of watering schedules and “smart irrigation” systems that cut down on the amount of water use.

Even if a part isn’t completely broken, it could still be costing your client money. Leaks and overwatering mean higher water bills, damaged turf and wet spots which impede traffic. That all makes for unhappy clients. It can also work the other way around, with aged-out sprinkler parts causing unnecessary system downtime and even damaged turf.

As you can see, it makes sense to check your irrigation system often for leaky valves. When you do property maintenance for your customers, your crews should check on sprinkler system equipment at every visit: as often as once a week, but once a month at a minimum.

Plastic replacement parts

Because of advances in science and technology, plastic has become the primary material used in most sprinkler components, from sprinkler heads to plugs to filter screens.
